The artist Horst Kuhnert is one of the great masters of concrete-constructive art. It is no wonder that in 1930, in the turbulent years between the First and Second World Wars, Theo van Doesburg founded an artists’ association called “Art Concret”, which was based on geometric, often mathematically calculable forms. Inspired by the observation of perfect laws of order such as the unit of measurement of the golden ratio, the human spirit was to experience universal order and perfection.

Horst Kuhnert’s work is part of this tradition. For many decades, his works have been exhibited in museums and have shaped public spaces. The first large sculptures and large wall and room installations were created in 1969.

Kuhnert was one of the first artists in Germany to work with plastic. Large-scale paintings and small editions with serigraphs are created in Horst Kuhnert’s studio on an equal footing with his sculptural works. This is an artistic screen printing technique, for which silk fabrics (sericus in Latin) were originally laid over the screens.
