“Visons and Beliefs” special limited edition | etching aquatint and carborundum | signed (guest room) | original woodcut on linen (floor)
In the early days of her artistic career, Maria Elisabeth Prigge began with watercolours of landscapes and became known for her exquisite prints. The intense perception and reproduction of what she experiences in nature remains a central theme of her oeuvre.
However, her approach and depiction changed fundamentally over the years. Maria Elisabeth Prigge has always been a great traveler. She is inspired by the barren landscapes of Iceland. She translates her increasingly reduced sign language into site-specific installations on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura on large wall surfaces, in direct contact with the surroundings. In Lapland, Sweden, she “paints” her lines directly into the ground with birchwood in the spirit of Land Art.
The Koenigshof Collection includes an etching by Maria E. Prigge with aquatint and carborundum, which creates a particularly deep black, from the Visions and Beliefs series. Woodcuts on canvas in the corridors of the Hotel Koenigshof bring us closer to the nature of Iceland with its impressive black and white contrasts.
