“Finding 11 (Himalaya)“ | unique piece | historical panorama folded | signed
Ulrike Heydenreich’s art has a lot to do with traveling, our deep-seated longing for unknown, distant lands. As early as the sixth millennium, maps were created to provide orientation. In the 19th century, the number of travelers rose sharply. The scientific method of cartography was developed to precisely measure the surfaces of the earth and depict them in detail.
The artist Ulrike Heydenreich searches for and collects special maps of high alpine landscapes. Their rapturous vastness, their minimalist clarity and austerity of snow-covered mountains, so close to the sky, fascinate her in particular. In addition to her fine drawings and collages, she uses maps from the period of early alpinism. She cuts, turns and folds these maps in meticulous detail. And combines the unique compositions into a three-dimensional object image.
